So long old Casa de Kearney :(
By Kenny and Rebekah | August 26, 2008

Our good friends, the Kearneys, made a pretty quick decision a couple weeks ago to sell their house and move across town. We seriously couldn’t be more excited for them. This move marks a new beginning in their lives and we’re so blessed to be able to experience it with them. It’s bitter sweet; the old house has so many memories. For one it’s the house Brian grew up in and, if I’m not mistaken, it’s the origin of what has become our Monday night groups (started many many years ago). But again, it’s a new chapter and it’s awesome. The new house is gigantic, beautiful, and we finally have a place to put our foosball table that’s been in storage for a few months–teheeeheee.
Maybe once things settle down a bit they can make a post or two on their blog? Brian? Anyone? : )
You can check out a few pics of the moving day here on our flickr account. Oh, and if anyone else is planning on moving this year, I’m afraid we’re gunna be busy. Juuuuuust kidding–Rebekah’s available : )

My Latest YouTube video
By Kenny | August 21, 2008
I had this idea about 6ish years ago—months before Passion of the Christ came out. There were some promo trailers floating around and I was able to snag one. I discovered that this trailer lined up (with some minor tweaking) really well with “There is a Light” by Delirious. At the time, I didn’t have the means to piece the two together. Now with technology at our fingertips (and my new lappy equipped with iMovie) I was able to put this long-time idea together. It’s pretty intense (I think) so just a heads-up.

corrí como el viento

(run like the wind)
It had been about 6 weeks since I last went on a run with Rebekah and you know how hard it is to pick it up again after that long of a time. Now, Martin is quite the runner back in Asuncion and so he’s been excited about going since he and Juanma got here. So this morning he and I went for a run. It was really awesome. It hurt like crazy but in that “I know this is good for me so I’ll suck it up and keep going” kind of way. We started out from our house and ran along the Alameda Drain all the way to the Flying Star on Rio Grande and back–4.5 miles! That’s nothing for Martin but I honestly haven’t ran that far without stopping since high school. Martin also has the little Nike+ sensor that you put in your shoe that transmits and tracks to the Nike+ Sportband. So below, you can see our actual workout this morning. Pretty cool! So I hope that today ends the long running “break.” Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go get a Tylenol.

RUNNING INSPIRATION:
• The Human Race
Nike+ is instigating a worldwide 10K “Run like no other” on August 31, in 25 cities around the globe, called The Human Race.
• Oscar Pistorius
I get daily emails from Creativity Magazine with latest industry updates, news, and of course commercials. This one is really really good. South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius dismisses conventional advice in a new Nike ad titled “Bad Listener.” (Agency: Wieden + Kennedy, Amsterdam). Says Pistorius, “I’m not disabled. I just don’t have any legs.”
• “Running slows the aging clock…”
A Stanford School of medicine article that Captain Awesome sent me this morning about how “Regular running slows the effects of aging…”

Paraguay in the house (literally)
By Kenny and Rebekah | August 10, 2008

Welcome Juanma and Martin!
It’s been in the plans for a few weeks and now the time is finally here. With several big projects on the horizon with our company, we had to call in reinforcements. Juanma and Martin are our two other partners who manage our Paraguay office and this last Friday they arrived for their 2 month stay (they’ll be here until September 2oth). As the title suggests, they’ll be staying at our house during that time and we’re crazy excited. They were both here around the same time last year (it was a complete surprise) but only stayed for one month on that visit. So thus begins an exciting season with them here. We have a ton of work to accomplish but we’ll definitely have fun in the process.
Be sure of a lot more posts as our adventure unfolds.

Camping with the crew near Ouray
By Kenny | August 7, 2008

This is one of those trips that you always talk about but it never really happens. But not this time!
It all started with the Steins. They frequent camping trips up at Yankee Boy Basin near Ouray Colorado and were planning another for this past weekend. Having gone to the same area last year (turns out on the same weekend last year) with the Taylors and the Heberts, we were quite familiar with the area and have wanted to go back ever since. So we were in from the get go. As time progressed, more and more people were getting the camping bug. By the time it was time to leave, we had a group of 10 anxious people ready to head to the Rockies of Colorado! Those who went were Me and B, Joshua and Becca Stein, Nate and Val Swanson, Kristin Shaffer, Stephen Dumas, and Jon and Nicole Hebert. (Nicole is Josh Taylor’s twin sister. She and Jon are stinkin’ awesome people.)
So we left on Friday August first at about 2:30 pm—Kristin and the Swansons in our car and Stephen rolling with the Steins. We rendezvoused with Jon and Nickie in Durango (they recently moved to Durango from Denver about 2 months ago) and caravaned up to Ouray. If you’re ever able, the drive from Durango to Ouray is amazing! It delivers breathtaking views, old mining villages, alpine lakes, waterfalls, deer, cliffs, Silverton CO (a classic mining town between Durando and Ouray) and so much more. It’s just spectacular. Just about to the town of Ouray, we turned off and up toward Yankee Boy Basin: our home for the next three days. We got to camp at around 9:00 and had to set up in the dark. From there it was nothing but good times. It really was a flawless trip: hiking, 4wheeling, campfires… ahhhh! Can’t wait to go back.
Check out our flickr account for all the awesome pics. I also borrowed Kearney’s video camera which I used to get some great footage of the trip. I’m working on getting that up on youtube so stay tuned.
Some trip highlights:
- taking a rock to the windshield not even out of ABQ
- Joshua locking his keys in the Jeep the first night
- The Steamboat dudes who had a hanger that we used to unlock the Jeep
- Awesome green chile stew that B made
- worship around the campfire
- green beans and salmon for dinner
- THE PROPANE TANK CATCHING FIRE (that’s a story for another time)
- 4 wheeling madness
- hanging out at the waterfall
- hiking to a beautiful alpine lake
- hanging out it Ouray
- headlamps
- hunting for firewood
Am I forgetting anything anyone?

IHOP Weekend in ABQ
By Kenny and Rebekah | July 31, 2008

The story starts here: Our friends Ben and Kristin moved out to Kansas City in 2006 to intern at the International House of Prayer (IHOP). For those who don’t know, IHOP is a ministry headed by Mike Bickle and who’s primary focus is the Prayer Room, a 24/7/365 worship and intercession ministry that has been going non-stop for nearly 9 years (yes, that is non-stop, i.e. continuously, since 1999). Also, every year over the New Year holiday, IHOP holds the One Thing Conference which brings 30,000 + believers from around the globe to the downtown convention center in KC for 3 days of prayer, worship, intercession, and break-out classes (we both went last year with the Shaffers and Kenny also went in 2002)… There’s much more to IHOP than that, so check it out when you have sometime. So anyway, the Shaffers returned to ABQ one year later which is awesome! Recruited as an intern at our church, and having made some solid relationships in KC, Kristin organized what became the Pursuit Conference that happened this past weekend which brought Luke Wood and others from his worship team (Steve and Amanda Offutt, Caleb and Rachel Culver, and Zach Wood) for three days of worship, teaching, and ministry. Through and through it was just an amazing time in fellowship, ministry, and encounters with the Lord.
Along with the actual conferene time, there were three full days of us all getting to hang with the IHOP crew. Kristin’s mom was out of town that weekend so she opened her house to the team to stay, so that pretty much was the hang out spot for the weekend. We all took tons of food to have on hand and simply had a great time meeting everyone and in fellowship. These guys are just amazing people. Genuine. Passionate. Talented. And yes, very cool. It was a short and sweet encounter that sadly came to an end but we made some great new friends who we’ll certainly see again sometime. Thanks again you guys for your steadfast devotion to what God has called you to do. It is such a blessing to so many. You certainly blessed us all with your visit.
So that’s it in a nutshell. You can check out our flickr page for photos and more info. Other than that, catch you next time.
(PS. Heading to Ouray, CO tomorrow for a 3 day camping trip with 9 other peeps! woohooo! Stay tuned)

A Most Excellent B-Day
By Kenny | July 29, 2008

Last Thursday I celebrated my 28th birthday. It was pretty much a flawless day. It started with some me time at Starbucks early in the morning doing some personal design work (I never really get to do that so it was great). Then Rebekah shuttled me and Kearney up to the La Luz trailhead around 2:00pm. It sounded like a good idea at the time but in the end the heat and sun just wrecked us. But that was about the only time Brian could go ’cause of work so I took what I could. We still had an awesome time though–fo sho. We probably ended up hiking around 7 or 8 miles. Believe it or not it was quite therapeutic. I need a little dose of ruggedness every now and then. Not much of that goes on sitting at a computer most of the day…So Ben picked us up after the hike around 6:30 and we proceeded to the park next to the Shaffer’s new casa to hang with some friends. My amazing wife organized a great evening with the crew to celebrate. There was cake, gifts, frisbee, and we all ended the night at the pool which was beyond awesome (especially for the smelly hiker guy..ahem). I was able to celebrate with my fam the following days which was great. Mark actually flew into ABQ for the weekend on Friday so I got to see him as well.
So wow, 28. It’s amazing how fast time goes. Really, I honestly can’t believe it. Birthdays are always a good time to evaluate where you’re at/ going and be reminded of the many blessings we have–which I certainly have a lot of. I’m first of all grateful to the Lord for being ever faithful and loving. He never ceases to captivate me and has revealed so much to me this past year. For my uh-mazing and beautiful wife and the awesome friendship we have that just keeps getting better. You make my life B. For my amazing family who I’m all very proud of and honored to call my friends. For THE best group of friends anybody could ask for. Seriously, it’s ridiculous how blessed we are to have you all in our lives. I don’t know where we’d be without all of you. You’re a blessing beyond belief. For an amazing church that the Lord led us to last November that has blessed us since day one. For our business and the opportunity to work with some of the most talented, excellent, genuine, and yes, humorous people out there (you all are of course lumped into the friends category too. you know that right? sears.) We’ve rolled with some good punches recently yet here we are going strong. I’m very proud of all of you.
There’s so much more to mention but it will all come out over time. That’s the whole point of this site I suppose.
Finally, thank you to my very good friend Paige Shaffer who drew me this amazing picture for my birthday. You’re so awesome Paige. You bring out the kid in me and I appreciate that you’re not weirded out by the 21 year age difference.
